How much can you save on your electric bill, home phone, and cable?

We've included some calculators to help you get started saving money.  Allthough thecalculators and information provided is meant for example puposes, they will help you see how much can be saved.  Final pricing on equipment, channels, fixtures, devices, etc. at time of purchase may vary.

Click on one of the downloadable calculators to the left or one of the following links.

Electrical

Learn how much you can save by installing energy efficiant light bulbs, dimmers, timers, ocupancy sensors, lighting control systems, and solar.

We are working on creating a downloadable calculator to help show how much can be saved by changing your electrical consumption and production.  But until then check out the following links to some great information and calculators to get you started.

Lutron's energy savings calculator, learn how much you can save by installing dimmers.

U.S. Department of Energy, energy savers calculator.

Lutron's Which Light Bulb is Right for You, a guide to using the right light bulb.

Solar

Solar Savings Calculator by SolarWorld
Use our solar calculator to figure out the approximate cost, potential savings, and recommended system size for your home

Roku

The downloadable calculator to the left will help to show you how you can still watch TV, movies, and sports without the expensce of cable or dish.  Just enter in your current cable or dish provider monthly bill amount, pick your channels, and calculate how much you can save.

EXAMPLE:
Say a homeowner has a cabe or dish subscription on the high end.  They have HD programming, all the channels possible (over 200), the four major paid movie channels like HBO, and the full sports package.  Estimated cost of $239.99 a month.  Using the calculator with Roku and its channels as the streaming device, with all the shown paid subscription channels added the homeowner could save over $1600 a year.

If this example sounds like you, we have a suggestion.  If you have the big sports package and are looking to replace it with streaming devices, you'll be disapointed.  You can get the NHL, NBA, MLB, and UFC full season programing along with many other sports programming.  You can't get ESPN or the NFL, Yet.  It's rumored that the NFL sunday ticket will be comming to Roku soon, but until then you'd be limited to Sunday games available over the air.  I'd suggest maintaining the minimal utility company entertainment package.  Like Cox cable expanded starter package for around $56.99 a month.  Bringing the example savings down to around $1000 a year.

Ooma

Example:
Say you have a home office with two phone lines.  One for the home and one for the office. An estimated montly bill of $125 for the two lines with caller ID, 3way calling, voice mail, and call forwarding.

Ooma VOIP cost around $200.
All calls within the U.S. FREE = $0 per month for phone calls
Ooma business plan features is $200 for the year = $16.67 a month
In this example you would save over $1,000 a year when you lose the land line.
